The sea and the red sun blended, two symbols of power, with the  cool breeze made the ambiance ecstatic. The sea waves carried the red rays towards the sand at the shore on their backs. The blue sea became red in no time. It looked like a painting becoming brighter and brighter every moment.

For people like me who lives in a concrete jungle in India, it’s even difficult to say the direction in which Sun rises everyday. The horizon for us doesn’t mean the line where the land and the sky meets. In fact our horizon varies every few meters and depends upon the height of the building in from of us. But the Sun is extraordinarily powerful and it’s rays make it’s way viz these concrete structures and illuminates our days. This may not be true for other planetary object that are weaker or far away. It’s difficult to feel the existence of the cool moon-rays even in full moon. Forget about the stars. Sometimes I wonder, if someday will arrive, the earth will be so bright artificially that naked eys will not be able to detect the stars in the sky.

The First Rays of Sun on the Bay of Bengal - Before Sun rise

But just keeping away the sad stories of nature in the concrete jungle, after long time I got the opportunity to see a sun rise exactly in the horizon. There are only few places you can see the infant sun bringing in the first ray to the region and this time I was in one of them, a sea beach. The esatern coast of India, where the Bay of Bengal has been washing the shores for probably millions years!

    Sun on the Horizontal

    Sun on the Horizontal

I spent my weekend lazying in the Mahabalipuram of Tamil Nadu. I didn’t miss the opportunity to wait and watch the Sun rising on the other side of the Bay of Bengal. The sea and the red sun blended, two symbols of power, with the  cool breeze made the ambiance ecstatic. The rays of Sun already lightened the morning in Mahabalipuram even before it protruded in the distant horizon. The sea waves carried the red rays towards the sand at the shore on their backs. The blue sea became red in no time. It looked like a painting becoming brighter and brighter every moment. The only thing that made noise in that clam sea was the fishermen boats. They looked like black ants floating in the horizon. It took not mor than couple of minutes when the Sun raised much above the horizon changed its color with fresh power as every day.

The sun rise may be a daily events for those living in the cosatal region, but for me it was something to be kept close to heart forever.

Dasara(Dussehra) at Mysore got something more than lights, elephant processions and the lively palaces this year. It is the celebration half Marathon. First of it’s for the city of Mysore, the marathon attracted local enthusiasts and also others. Organized on the Sunday of the ten days long Dasara celebration in Mysore, this event definitely added new color to the festival.

Celebration Run - Mysore Dasara 2011

I was lucky to have witnessed the exuberance of the participants on that day. The run was for three segments, 5 K, 10 K and a Half marathon. With close to two thousands participants in the bright and very pleasant early autumn morning, the Mysore palace gateway got up to a new resonance. Kids and many elderly people along with the youths grabbed this chance to run for fun, for cause of health and for en-lighting the  culture of the region. Celebrities like Ex-Cricketer Javagal Srinath and actress Nidhi Subbaiah added to the joy of the thousands of people. Folk dancers were another attraction of the event that aimed to promote the local culture.

The celebration marathon, organized by Life is Calling sports, also promoted another noble cause -  Adoption of animals in Mysore zoo. The event has given the people of Mysore city a taste of a new sport during a period when visitors from around world find their place here to enjoy the famous Dasara festival. Hope it will continue every year in future bringing in fresh energies and better causes.

Dasara (Dusshera) is the most celebrated festival of Mysore and also Karnataka. The whole city shines in the lights of the palace and colors of the festivals.  The tourists staggers there in Lakhs on this occasion.

Unfortunately I will not be able visit Mysore on the exact day of Vijayadashami, 2011. But i could get a glimpse of the preparation and already shining city this weekend. The celebration spans ten days, final day being the Vijayadashami.

The evenings of the Mysore are glowing.  All the heritage buildings are lit like the grand Mysore Palace. The streets, shops  are also decorated with lights. Everyone living in Mysore and the thousands of tourists are also enlightened with the spirit of Dasara. The city simply looks like another heaven.

The only irritating thing I found is the crowd and traffic. But hundreds of volunteers along with the police men making it moving. If you ever plan to be there during Dasara, you should defintely book it in advance, otherwise it is very difficult to find a decent place for accommodation due to the rush of tourists.

We were just given only 90 minutes at the check gate Kudremukh National Park.  90 minutes to visit and explore the area. Too less time to enjoy the lush monsoon kissed forests and hills of Kudremukh!

September is definitely not the best season to visit Kudremukh or the western face of the Western Ghats where rain falls know no boundaries. But thankfully it was not core monsoon season and we were lucky to see the sun rays penetrating the clouds and the thick forest. The weather changes every few minutes this season as the sun plays hide and seek with the clouds.

The Breathtaking views of the Nilgiris

The Breathtaking views of the Nilgiris

We arrived Kudremukh driving up around 100 km from Chikmagalur via Kalasa. It was noon when entered the ever green national Park. The grass hill range was at their best at this season. The hills were dazzling in the sun and the fresh rain drops as if some painter just painted them and left to dry. The rains bring juvenility to the hills every year and they look stunningly beautiful. But this beauty is not easily visible as the clouds always provide the veils to keep the secrete away from the others. Its the wind that favors us and blow away the soft cotton veils of clouds for moments.

    View from Lakya Dam

    View from Lakya Dam

It was a drive of around 1o km from the check gate when we reached the abandoned Kudremukh Iron Ore company and the Lakya Dam. The Bhadra river flows by the road against our direction. The monsoon rain carries lots of mud into the river making the color of the water reddish brown.  In this picturesque place, once the Iron Ore company existed. It must have harmed the beauty of this remote hill, but I am glad that its closed now. The closed and abandoned factory buildings lying under the rain and sun for years made the place mysteriously silent. The nature is coming back on the man made structures. Our destination was Lakya Dam, situated 4 km away from the Kudremukh township.

    Green Carpets Everywhere

    Green Carpets Everywhere - Kudremukh

The majestic wall of the artificial dam was visible from the road. The name Lakya is written in huge in the grass covered green wall.  We had to turn right and drive up a bit to reach the gate. It was sunny and walk on the dam lying lonely waiting for someone! The put few steps ahead to get a complete view of the gigantic dam. In the horizon it was the hill range, sparkling green in the fresh sun rays. It was silent but ecstatic. We felt like discovering a treasure. We were speechless. Its a beauty can’t captured in camera or canvas! We were kind of dragged into the walk farther inside the dam. On the other side , old Iron factory was visible in the lush hill lines.

    The Bhadra River

    The Bhadra River

It was a view I would never forget and would always keep very close to my heart. But nature is sometime very clever. It was like a movie show for few minutes and the clouds slowly took the heavenly view away from us. And in no time nature said ’show over, now go’ as it started raining heavily. We were probably half a km away from our car, we had to run for it. The rain was too heavy, we all got drenched in few seconds. But we all liked it. It felt so pure. We stopped running and slowly walked enjoying the beauty of nature.

The nature’s painting was under veil of clouds when reached our car completely washed by the rain. We thanked the unknown for showing a heaven on earth for moments!
